I swear I saw this, Michael Taussig

Notes on Michael Taussigs' book 'i swear I saw this' (2011), alongside sketches of Great Yarmouth. The book records reflections on the fieldwork notebook taussig kept through forty years of travel in Columbia He sees the notebook as a form of modernist literature, blending inner and outer worlds, focusing on small details and observation (which are then translated into finished things in the academic text), with memory (going back and writing in the margins a few days or weeks later) as a central motif. He sees drawing as 'a depicting, a hauling, an unravelling, and being impelled toward something or somebody'.

A great read if you are into thinking about methods of processing / observing/ depicting things away from the written text.
