Picture on an article called ‘Hierarchy in America’ by Prof. Ward Keeler. And get this it's Polly pocket themed. The article is about the embrace of principles of ‘hierarchy’, and how this plays into other views that are widely shared in America, such as religious commitment, support for the military and free market capitalism. The idea is that these people may believe that 1. power comes from the top and 2. Engaging with the powerful (like corporations, or trump, or even God) can help you in some way (like through corporations giving you a job, or God giving you a place in Heaven). 3. These relationships that help you better yourself have to be between groups that are different to each other, not the same group. 4. Government is seen as different to other parties mentioned as they are seen to not help you, instead they take your liberty and don't give anything in return. However, leaders that do not follow the normal rules, illiberal ones (like trump), maybe preferred as they offer a better return on your vote than the ‘norm following experts’. Give it a read in Anthropology Today.
